bio

Catherine Cachia is a multidisciplinary artist based in Toronto who works in many mediums: mural painting, hand lettering, illustration, documentary photography and more. The thread that runs through her work is embracing what’s imperfect, messy and human. She considers art making to be a spiritual practice that can bring a sense of healing and balance to both artist and viewer. She aims to unburden and uplift people, if only for a moment, when someone encounters her work.

Catherine has been working as a professional, independent freelance artist since 2015 after the birth of her daughter. Prior, she worked in the non-profit sector as a fundraising professional for 10+ years in both Toronto and Vancouver supporting a number of arts and social justice organizations.

My creative practice is a fundamental part of my daily life. Art is the primary tool I use to experience the fullness of humanity. Putting paint on a surface is pure joy to me. Wrestling with words, pictures and ideas is how I process the rage, grief and heartbreak that comes from being an empathetic person in a sick world. The tools I use change over time but everything I make comes from the same place of intuition and belief in the value of my creativity.
